HBOT & Fertility Support — Natural & IVF
Give Your Body Every Advantage on Your Fertility Journey
Whether you're trying to conceive naturally or preparing for IVF, explore how Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy may support some of the physiological processes involved in reproductive health — personally guided, in our Kildare clinic or from your own home.
Who This May Support
Your Body Deserves the Best Possible Environment
Fertility is complex and can be influenced by many different factors. Some people explore HBOT alongside natural conception or fertility treatment because of its effects on oxygen availability, circulation and cellular processes involved in tissue function and recovery.
The Science
How HBOT May Support Reproductive Health
Reproductive tissues — like all tissues in the body — depend on adequate blood flow, oxygen and cellular energy to function. Processes involved in follicle development, endometrial growth and tissue repair all take place within a complex biological environment influenced by circulation, hormones, metabolism and many other factors.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy significantly increases the amount of oxygen dissolved in the blood plasma. Under pressure, this creates a temporary increase in oxygen availability throughout the body and may influence some of the physiological processes relevant to reproductive tissue function.
Supports Tissue Oxygen Availability
HBOT substantially increases dissolved oxygen in the blood plasma, temporarily increasing the oxygen available to tissues throughout the body during treatment.
May Support Endometrial Function
The endometrium depends on adequate vascularisation and tissue function as it develops during the menstrual cycle. Increased oxygen availability may support some of the physiological processes involved in endometrial growth and receptivity.
May Support Ovarian Cellular Function
Developing follicles and oocytes rely on complex metabolic and cellular processes. Increased oxygen availability under hyperbaric conditions may influence ovarian cellular function and the environment in which follicles develop.
May Support Male Reproductive Function
Sperm production and function can be affected by oxidative and metabolic factors. HBOT has been investigated for its potential influence on sperm motility, density, morphology and survival.
The Research
What Does the Research Say?
HBOT has been studied as a potential adjunct in several specific areas of fertility, including resistant thin endometrium, poor ovarian response and male infertility. Some studies have reported improvements in reproductive measures, but the evidence remains relatively small and HBOT is not an established fertility treatment. Importantly, evidence relating to one fertility problem should not be assumed to apply to every person experiencing difficulty conceiving.
2023 Prospective Study · Resistant Thin Endometrium
A prospective study investigated HBOT in women undergoing frozen embryo transfer who had a resistant thin endometrium despite standard and adjunctive treatments. Endometrial thickness increased significantly following HBOT, from an average of 5.76mm to 6.57mm. The study also reported fewer cancelled cycles. Among women receiving blastocysts, the intrauterine pregnancy rate was higher in the HBOT group than the concurrent control group.
Important limitation: This was not a large randomised controlled trial. Participants voluntarily entered the HBOT or control groups, so the results require confirmation in larger randomised studies.
View the Research on PubMed →2025 Study · Poor Ovarian Response · 41 Women
A pre-post cohort study examined 41 women with poor ovarian response undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation. Following HBOT, researchers reported increases in the number of oocytes retrieved, normal fertilisation, available embryos and several measures of ovarian response. Improvements in oocyte number appeared to plateau after approximately four to seven HBOT sessions in this particular study.
Important limitation: This was a small pre-post cohort study, not a randomised controlled trial. We therefore cannot conclude that HBOT itself caused the improved outcomes or that the same protocol would benefit other fertility patients.
View the Research on PubMed →2025 Systematic Review & Meta-Analysis · Male Infertility
A systematic review and meta-analysis examined nine eligible studies evaluating HBOT alongside conventional treatment for male infertility. The pooled results reported improvements in sperm survival, density, morphology, normal sperm rates and motility, as well as a higher clinical pregnancy rate.
Important limitation: The review identified a relatively small number of trials, differences according to the underlying cause of infertility and potential publication bias. Further high-quality research is needed.
View the Research on PubMed →What does this mean for fertility support? There are encouraging findings in specific fertility populations — particularly resistant thin endometrium, poor ovarian response and male-factor infertility. But the evidence is still developing. HBOT should therefore be considered as a potential adjunct to fertility care rather than a treatment proven to increase the chance of conception or IVF success for everyone.
Your Guide
Your HBOT Programme, Guided by Davitt Meenaghan
Davitt is an IBUM-certified Hyperbaric Safety Officer. He founded ReWell after seeing too many people buying or renting chambers with little guidance on how to use them appropriately.
For people exploring HBOT alongside a fertility journey, Davitt's role is to guide the safe and appropriate use of HBOT — including pressure, frequency and pacing — around your circumstances and intended use. Where you're undergoing IVF or other fertility treatment, HBOT should be coordinated with the guidance and timing provided by your fertility specialist.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can HBOT help with a thin endometrial lining?
A 2023 prospective study involving women with resistant thin endometrium undergoing frozen embryo transfer reported a significant increase in endometrial thickness following HBOT, along with fewer cancelled cycles. These findings are encouraging, but larger randomised controlled trials are needed before HBOT can be considered an established treatment for thin endometrium.
Can HBOT support egg quality or ovarian response?
Early research is exploring this. A 2025 study involving 41 women with poor ovarian response reported improvements in oocyte yield, fertilisation and available embryos following HBOT. However, this was a small pre-post study rather than a randomised controlled trial, so stronger research is needed before we can say HBOT improves egg quality or IVF outcomes.
Is there evidence for HBOT and male fertility?
A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of nine studies reported improvements in several sperm measures, including motility, density, morphology and survival, when HBOT was combined with conventional treatment. The researchers also identified limitations including the relatively small number of trials and possible publication bias.
Can HBOT increase my chances of becoming pregnant?
There isn't enough evidence to say that HBOT will increase an individual's chance of conception or a successful IVF pregnancy. Some studies in specific fertility populations have reported encouraging reproductive outcomes, but fertility is influenced by many different factors. HBOT should therefore be considered as a potential adjunct rather than a fertility treatment in itself.
Can I use HBOT while undergoing IVF?
Potentially, but this should be discussed with your fertility specialist. IVF involves carefully timed medication, procedures and embryo transfer, so any additional therapy should fit around your medical treatment rather than interfere with it. ReWell can guide your HBOT use once your individual circumstances and fertility team's advice are understood.
What if I become pregnant while using HBOT?
Let ReWell and your fertility or medical team know before continuing HBOT. Whether HBOT is medically appropriate during pregnancy depends on the individual circumstances and should be determined by appropriately qualified medical professionals.
