ReWell HBOT Guide

How Many HBOT Sessions Might I Need?

There isn't one number that is right for everyone. How often and how long someone uses Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy can vary considerably depending on why they are using it, their goals, the type of chamber and their individual circumstances.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at ReWell
From a first experience to longer-term access

One of the most common questions we hear at ReWell is, “How many HBOT sessions will I need?” The answer depends on what you are hoping to achieve.

Someone who simply wants to experience HBOT may start with one session. Someone using HBOT as part of a short period of recovery may consider a small series. Other people choose more sustained programmes or home access where frequent sessions are more practical.

The ranges below are best understood as general pathways, rather than a recommendation for any particular condition or person.

Important: These ranges are educational examples only. They are not a diagnosis, treatment plan or guarantee of benefit. HBOT suitability and session frequency should be considered in the context of your individual health, goals and any medical care you are receiving.

A General Guide

What might an HBOT pathway look like?

These examples show how HBOT may be approached at different stages and for different goals. They are general examples to help you understand the different ways HBOT may be used, rather than a set formula for everyone.

1

Experience HBOT

A single session can be a useful way to experience the chamber, understand what HBOT feels like and decide whether you would like to explore it further.

5–10

Short-Term or Acute Recovery

A shorter series may be considered when HBOT is being explored around a specific period of recovery, physical demand or short-term goal.

10–20

Surgery or Injury Recovery

Some people explore a more consistent series of sessions during rehabilitation or recovery following injury or surgery, alongside their usual medical and rehabilitation care.

20–40

Longer-Term Recovery

Where goals are more complex or longer-standing, HBOT may be used over a more extended period rather than as a small number of isolated sessions.

40+

Neurological Programmes

Longer programmes are sometimes explored in neurological and complex recovery settings. The evidence, goals and appropriate approach vary considerably between conditions and individuals.

30–90 Days

Home Access

For people considering regular or longer-term use, a chamber at home can make frequent sessions easier to incorporate into everyday life without repeated clinic travel.

Session ranges shown above are illustrative examples only. The 30–90 day home pathway refers to a period of chamber access and does not prescribe a particular number or frequency of sessions.

Why The Number Varies

The goal matters more than simply reaching a number.

Why you're considering HBOT A short-term recovery goal is very different from exploring HBOT as part of a longer-term programme.
How frequently you can use it The practicality of attending a clinic regularly can influence whether clinic sessions or home access makes more sense.
The chamber and pressure HBOT is not one single format. Chamber type and operating pressure can differ between settings.
Your individual circumstances Health history, current treatment, recovery stage, tolerance and personal goals all matter when considering HBOT.

Clinic or Home?

The number of sessions can change what makes practical sense.

If you are considering only a few sessions, visiting a ReWell clinic may be the simplest option. If you are considering frequent or longer-term use, home access may be worth comparing.

Before You Decide

Four useful questions to ask.

Rather than choosing a session number first, start by thinking about what you actually need from HBOT.

01

What is my main goal?

Are you trying HBOT for the first time, exploring short-term recovery support or considering a longer programme?

02

How often could I realistically attend?

Consider travel, work, family commitments and how easily clinic sessions could fit into your schedule.

03

Would home access make more sense?

As session frequency increases, the convenience and cost of a home rental can become more relevant.

04

Is HBOT appropriate for me?

Your health history, current care and individual circumstances should always be considered before starting HBOT.

A Note on Safety & Evidence

More sessions do not automatically mean better results.

Research into HBOT varies considerably by condition, chamber pressure, session duration and treatment schedule. Some medical uses of HBOT are well established, while evidence for other recovery and wellness applications is still developing.

HBOT is also not suitable for everyone. If you have a medical condition, are recovering from surgery or injury, take prescription medication, are pregnant or are receiving medical treatment, speak with an appropriate healthcare professional about your individual circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions

HBOT sessions, explained.

Can I just try one HBOT session?

Yes. You do not need to commit to a large programme simply to experience HBOT. A single clinic session can help you understand what the chamber experience is like before deciding whether you want to continue.

Do I have to complete a fixed number of sessions?

No. There is no single fixed number that applies to everyone. The appropriate approach depends on why you are considering HBOT, your circumstances and your goals.

How often are HBOT sessions usually done?

Frequency varies according to the setting and reason for use. Some people attend intermittently, while other programmes involve more regular sessions over a defined period. ReWell can explain the practical options available through clinic sessions and home access.

When might home HBOT make more sense?

Home access can become worth considering when you want frequent sessions, a longer period of access or greater flexibility around work and family life. ReWell offers nationwide chamber rentals with setup and ongoing support.

Does ReWell offer session packages?

Yes. Alongside individual sessions, ReWell offers multi-session packages including 5, 10 and 20-session options for both 60 and 90-minute sessions.

Where can I have an HBOT session with ReWell?

ReWell provides clinic HBOT sessions in Naas, Co. Kildare and Sandyford, Dublin. Home chamber rental is available nationwide across Ireland and Northern Ireland.
