HBOT Research & Evidence
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Research
Explore the science and current research behind HBOT, from established medical applications to developing evidence across neurological health, chronic pain, recovery, Long COVID, fertility and more.
At ReWell, we look beyond the headline — considering what studies found, who was studied and where the evidence remains limited.
The Science
Why Researchers Are Studying HBOT
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy combines increased pressure with oxygen. Under pressure, more oxygen can dissolve into blood plasma, increasing oxygen availability to tissues.
Researchers are studying how these physiological effects may influence biological processes involved in energy production, tissue repair, inflammation and neurological function.
Oxygen Availability
More oxygen available to tissues.
Cellular Energy
Supports oxygen-dependent energy production.
Tissue Repair
Supports oxygen-dependent healing processes.
Inflammation
May influence inflammatory and oxidative pathways.
Brain & Nervous System
Research includes brain metabolism, neuroplasticity and neurological recovery.

How ReWell Looks at HBOT Research
Not all research provides the same level of evidence. We consider study design, participant numbers, control groups, findings and limitations — and we don't assume that findings in one condition automatically apply to another.
Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses
Bring together evidence across multiple relevant studies.
Randomised Controlled Trials
Compare defined treatment and control groups.
Observational & Pilot Studies
Can identify useful signals, usually with less certainty.
Preclinical Research
Investigates mechanisms rather than establishing outcomes in people.

The ReWell Approach
Research Is One Part of the Picture
Understanding the evidence matters. So do your circumstances, goals, current care and how you intend to use HBOT.
ReWell is led by Davitt Meenaghan, an IBUM-certified Hyperbaric Safety Officer, with an emphasis on appropriate use, safety and individual guidance.
If you're exploring HBOT and aren't sure where to start, begin with a conversation.
